APPROVING AND AUTHORIZING THE ACCEPTANCE OF GRANT FUNDS FROM THE YOUTH CLIMATE ACTION FUND AND PROVIDING AN APPROPRIATION TO THE ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH DEPARTMENT BEGINNING IN FISCAL YEAR 2027.
WHEREAS, the Albuquerque Sustainability Office, youth, and communities will benefit from funding for youth-led microgrant projects that support community-driven priorities in the 2021 Climate Action Plan and the City's related goals and commitments; and
WHEREAS, the City of Albuquerque applied to direct funding to youth-led climate action projects in Albuquerque; and
WHEREAS, there is no match for this competitive funding; and
WHEREAS, the Sustainability Office supports action to mitigate the impacts of climate change on our communities and adapt to our changing environment (e.g., extreme heat, drought, aridification); and
WHEREAS, the grant funding, as awarded, would be provided in the amount of $50,000 to the City to be spent from the Environmental Health Department; and
WHEREAS, 15% of the grant or $7,500 represents the Environmental Health Department's IDOH rate for administrative purposes.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL, THE GOVERNING BODY OF THE CITY OF ALBUQUERQUE:
Section 1. That Council hereby approves and authorizes the City of Albuquerque's Sustainability Office to accept the grant awarded under the Youth Climate Action Fund in the amount of $50,000, and its acceptance and filing with appropriate official or office is in all respects approved.
Section 2. That the funds in the amount of $50,000 from the Youth Climate Action Fund are hereby appropriated to the Environmental Health Department in the Operating Grants Fund (265) for Fiscal Year 2027.
Section 3. No matching funds from the Transfer to Operating Grants Program of the General Fund are required and hereby appropriated in the Operating Grants Fund (265).
