City Council Decisions:
? Rezoning property from Traditional Neighborhood District to Mixed Use District located at 925 Cotton Grove Road: On February 9, 2026, City Council held a public hearing of which 1 member of the public spoke. City Council approved (7-0) Ordinance 007-2026.
? Conditional Zoning related to the development of a 54-unit apartment complex at 114 Forest Hill Road: On April 27, 2026, City Council removed this item from the agenda at the request of the rezoning applicants. They stated that the project wasn't moving forward due to NC Housing Finance Agency funding constraints.
? Conditional Zoning for East Center Street Extension Subdivision: On April 27, 2026, City Council held a public hearing of which 2 members of the public spoke. City Council approved (6-0) Ordinance 013-2026.
? Text Amendments to Unified Development Ordinance relative to Accessory Structures and Accessory Dwelling Units: On April 27, 2026, City Council held a public hearing of which no members of the public spoke. City Council approve (6-0) Ordinance 014-2026.
Historic Preservation Month:
May is Historic Preservation Month, and the City of Lexington is celebrating the places, stories, and character that make our community unique.
Throughout the month, the City will be sharing information and hosting activities related to historic preservation. We invite you to participate in the following:
? Historic Preservation Month Proclamation at City Council on May 11, 2026, 6:00 p.m. at the City Centre, 200 North State St, Lexington, NC 27292.
? Social Media Highlights will be posted on the City's accounts throughout the month to share why preservation matters, spotlight various properties, and provide information on the City's preservation program.
? Property Owner Survey was sent to the residents of the Park Place Local Historic District to guide future City programming and resources for historic properties. They have until May 31, 2026, to respond.
? Historic Property Owners' Open House on May 21, 2026, 5:30 - 7:00 p.m. at Robbins Recreation Center, 512 Hargrave St, Lexington, NC 27292. Attendees will learn about the Certificate of Appropriateness (COA) process and Historic District Guidelines, explore resources from the National Park Service and State Historic Preservation Office, and share feedback on potential street signage for the Park Place Local Historic District.
Historic Preservation Training:
To maintain our Certified Local Government status, city staff and at least two commission members must attend at least one informational or educational meeting per federal year pertaining to the work and functions of the commission or historic preservation.
