Legal Authority:
The Board was established by the Public Cemetery District Law, California Health & Safety Code, Part 4.

Membership:
The Santa Maria Cemetery District Trustees shall consist of five appointed members who reside in the service boundaries.

Term:
The five Trustees of the Santa Maria Cemetery District shall be appointed to four-year terms commencing at noon on the first Monday in January by the Board of Supervisors.

Duties:
The powers and duties of the Santa Maria Cemetery District shall be the same as those given to cemetery districts in Section 9040 of this Code.
a) A district may own, operate, improve, and maintain cemeteries and provide interment services within its boundaries.
b) A district shall maintain the cemeteries owned by the district.
c) The district that owns a cemetery shall have exclusive jurisdiction and control over its maintenance and management.

Meeting Date and Location:
The Santa Maria Cemetery District Trustees shall hold regular meetings on the second Monday each month. The meetings begin at 9:00 A.M.
