WHEREAS, The City and County of San Francisco recognizes the rich tapestry of cultures, traditions, and contributions that define our diverse community; and WHEREAS, Iranian Americans, as part of the broader Iranian diaspora, have made profound contributions to the social, economic, scientific, medical, artistic, academic, technological, and civic life of the United States, the State of California, and the City of San Francisco; and WHEREAS, As affirmed in House Resolution 243 of the 119th Congress, introduced March 24, 2025, the United States Congress expressed support for designating March as Iranian American Heritage Month in recognition of the community’s enduring contributions to American society, culture, innovation, and enterprise; and WHEREAS, Iranian Americans represent a vibrant and diverse community of many faiths, languages, and cultural backgrounds who have strengthened neighborhoods, founded businesses, served in public office, advanced scientific discovery, created jobs, and nurtured future generations of leaders; and WHEREAS, Nowruz, the Iranian New Year celebrated on the vernal equinox each March, is a centuries-old tradition symbolizing renewal, hope, and harmony; and WHEREAS, Iranian Americans have actively engaged in civic life in San Francisco, supporting cultural preservation, volunteering with local organizations, and strengthening the social fabric of our City; and Supervisors Dorsey; Chen, Walton, Mandelman, Wong BOARD OF SUPERVISORS Page 2 123456789 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24 25 WHEREAS, The City and County of San Francisco is committed to honoring the heritage and achievements of all communities and recognizes that celebrating Iranian American history and contributions advances equity, understanding, and inclusion; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Board of Supervisors of the City and County of San Francisco hereby recognizes March 2026 as Iranian American Heritage Month in the City and County of San Francisco; and, be it FURTHER RESOLVED, That the City calls upon residents, community organizations, businesses, and educational institutions to celebrate throughout March 2026 by hosting cultural, educational, business, and civic programs highlighting Iranian American history, heritage, and achievements; and, be it FURTHER RESOLVED, That the City and County of San Francisco hereby recognizes and honors the enduring civic, cultural, and economic contributions of the Iranian American community to the life and vitality of our City.
