[Arab American Heritage Month - April 2026] Resolution recognizing the month of April 2026 as Arab American Heritage Month in the City and County of San Francisco. WHEREAS, Arab Americans have played a vital role in shaping the United States, contributi ng across generations to the nation's cultural, social, economic, and political development through resilience, innovation, and creativity; and WHEREAS, Arab American Heritage Month, observed in April, offers a meaningful opportunity to honor the diverse c ultures, traditions, and histories of Arab Americans from 22 countries, and to promote understanding of their continued impact on American society; and WHEREAS, San Francisco is home to a proud and longstanding Arab American community, with individuals and families from Lebanon, Syria, Palestine, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Yemen, and other Arab nations building homes, businesses, and neighborhoods across the City for generations; and WHEREAS, District 5 is home to especially vibrant Arab American communities whos e residents have contributed significantly to the social, cultural, and civic fabric of San Francisco; and WHEREAS, Arab American-owned businesses and the Neighborhood Business Alliance, which represents Arab grocers and other Arab business chambers of com merce, enrich the local economy while serving as spaces for cultural exchange, community gathering, and education; and WHEREAS, Members of San Francisco's Arab American community have made meaningful contributions across many sectors, including technology, healthcare, education, the arts, social justice, and public service, often while navigating systemic barriers and fostering cross-cultural understanding; and WHEREAS, The diversity within the Arab American community, including a wide range of cultures, la nguages, religions, and traditions, adds richness and depth to San Francisco's broader identity as an inclusive, multicultural City; and WHEREAS, Arab Americans continue to advocate for social justice, equity, and representation, working to ensure future g enerations thrive and feel a sense of belonging in the City they help shape through community organizations like the Arab Resource & Organizing Center (AROC); and WHEREAS, The City and County of San Francisco recognizes the importance of countering harmful stereotypes, promoting public awareness, and fostering solidarity between communities to ensure all residents are treated with dignity and respect; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Board of Supervisors of the City and County of San Francisco here by recognizes the month of April 2026 as Arab American Heritage Month and honors the significant and enduring contributions of Arab Americans to the City's civic, cultural, and economic life; and, be it FURTHER RESOLVED, That the Board of Supervisors celeb rates the Arab American communities across San Francisco and acknowledges their essential role in the ongoing vibrancy and diversity of the City; and, be it FURTHER RESOLVED, That the City and County of San Francisco encourages all residents to learn about and celebrate the history, culture, and achievements of Arab Americans as part of building stronger bridges of understanding, connection, and shared progress; and, be it FURTHER RESOLVED, That the City and County of San Francisco reaffirms its commitment to standing against discrimination, xenophobia, and hate in all forms, and to supporting Arab Americans and all marginalized communities in achieving equity, inclusion, and justice.
